Visitors to the Fox 5 website voted the Griffin Bears as the High 5 Sports Team of the Week for October 28. Each week, Fox 5 personnel selects five high school sports teams to nominate for consideration as “Team of the Week” from high schools within Fox 5’s 55-county viewing area. These five teams are selected “based on popularity, compelling performance, and/or the most interesting performance history” (www.high5sports.com/generic/team_of_week/team-of-the-week-rules). The winning team is then selected by a poll posted on high5sports.com, where visitors are asked to vote for their favorite team.
The Griffin Bears won by gaining 78,368 votes, which was 52.8 percent of the total votes. The South Gwinnett Comets trailed behind with 63,144 votes, or 42.5 percent.
The Fox 5 website states that the television channel will host a pep rally for Griffin High on Thursday, October 28, but Ms. Joanie Mullins, Assistant Principle’s Secretary, says that GHS principle Keith Simmons is working with Fox 5 to decide when would be the best time for the television station to come down, and has not yet decided if the school will be involved in a pep rally.
