>Janie Clark, of 535 Pineridge Road, Griffin, was hit while crossing Taylor Street from Tiger Lily, her place of work, to get to her car on Tuesday, October 26.
“The light was red on the Taylor Street side,” said Clark. “The turn signal had not even turned green. I was walking across, and he hit me and knocked me to the ground.”
“You’re on my foot!” Clark said she screamed. “If he hadn’t have had his window down, I don’t think he would have known he hit me” said Clark.
Clark says the driver was a white, clean-cut male in a new white Honda that had a temporary dealer tag. “He was wearing a 5 Star Tire and Auto shirt, so I called up there, but they said they had no employees that drove something like that” said Clark.
Several witnesses were on the sidewalks when Clark was hit, and rushed to her aid. Clark said as they were helping her to the sidewalk, the driver said he would pull over as she called her husband. “Several witnesses saw him pull into a parking spot right here in front of [The Tiger Lily] but before I got off the phone, he backed up and left.”
At that point, Clark called the Griffin Police Department. Clark and several eyewitnesses described the incident. Clark said she was told by GPD the driver could face up to three felony charges for the hit and run.
Clark has not heard back from the GPD but plans on calling them today. “It was very frightening in retrospect. Who knows what would have happened if his window hadn’t been down.”
