Though the company has performed “The Nutcracker” for the last 16 years, GBT director Mitch Flanders makes sure audiences always have a reason to return year after year. “Every year we add something new to the production,” said Flanders. “We invite guest dancers to complement our dancers; this year we have a lot of new costumes. We make it bigger and better every year. It’s gotten bigger and bigger and bigger,” he said.
Dancers Amelia Smith and Faith Brooks will be playing the part of Clara; Ashley Barnes will be the Sugar Plum Fairy; and guest dancer Jose Serrano of the Columbia City Ballet will fill the role of the Cavalier Nutcracker Prince.
With every role accounted for, Flanders places the cast of characters at 120 people, plus 50 backstage volunteers and stage hands. Even 12 of the parents of dancers are involved, playing the roles of “party parents” in the first act.
Tickets for “The Nutcracker” will be available for purchase at Studio D at 111 N. Hill Street in downtown Griffin until Wednesday. After that time, tickets will be available at the theatre box office. Ticket prices range from $10-$15.
“Please come out and see the show,” said Flanders. “You won’t be disappointed.”
