>Spalding County zoning board of appeals denies T-Mobile tower

>The Spalding County zoning board of appeals voted against the placement of the T-Mobile cell tower on Frank Harris’s property on the corner of 6th and Maddox.

Last night’s meeting was the fourth time the board heard arguments from T-Mobile and the residents of the area.  The board was split, with four voting to deny the re-zoning application and Doug Hardwick, Michelle Cannon, and Gail Hackbart dissenting.

Bryan Clanton (voted to deny) explained his vote by saying, “The burden of proof was on T-mobile to prove significant gap coverage that made it necessary to erect the tower. T-mobile presented the facts that supported their business, but there appeared to be discrepancies. I really would have preferred a qualified, unbiased party to examine the technical aspect of their coverage claims. It appears that there could be less intrusive options for extending the company’s coverage that would not be as detrimental to such a large portion of the surrounding community.”

The Spalding County Board of Commissioners is scheduled to hear the matter on February 24.
