>At the March 7th BOC meeting, Brian Upson of Paragon Consulting Group gave a presentation on the current building options for the proposed Senior Center in Spalding County. Although the original proposal for the center was based at a location on Carver Road, it proved too costly. However, the current possible locations have been graded based off of this original version. The two site selections that were presented at the BOC meeting were the Elks Club and the Cooks Building located in the Memorial Drive Plaza.
The assessment criteria that led to Upson’s ultimate recommendation for the site selection included the following areas: the cost of acquisition, construction costs, time for completion, adaptability of current buildings, possibility for future expansion, parking and ease of access. Each area of the assessment criteria were assigned varying points which equaled a total of 100 possible points.
After presenting the facts and figures for each site selection according to the assessment criteria, the Cooks Building won Upson’s recommendation because it had 56.42 total points out of 100, whereas the Elks Club fell short with only 43.58 total points. According to the presentation given by Upson, the Cooks Building will be less expensive in terms of acquisition and construction and should take less time to complete.
