Whether you’re already a frequent downtown diner, or have yet to discover the wonderful restaurants located in downtown Griffin, there’s a new reason to choose locally when trying to pick a place to eat.
The “Downtowner” card is the brainchild of the guys at Safehouse Coffee and Tea – Hunt Slade, Jacob Orr, Stephen Dozier and David Fountain. While in Atlanta they happened upon a “disloyalty” card, a campaign that prompted people to try different area coffee shops.
Bringing the idea to Griffin, the Downtowner is a multi-restaurant/coffeeshop loyalty card that rewards diners for eating and drinking at participating downtown restaurants, which include Slices Pizzeria, 6th Street Pier, Aly Cakes, Mill Towne Gourmet and Safehouse Coffee and Tea.
“The idea is that all in one day, you can come downtown and go to three of these businesses and purchase an item. After those three purchases, the fourth item is completely free,” said Fountain.
Purchasing any item on the business’ menu will result in a stamp placed next to that business’ name. Once three businesses have been stamped, you can receive the item listed on the back of the card from any one of the five businesses.
The free items offered include any beverage from Safehouse, a slice of cheese pizza from Slices, a free dessert from Mill Town, a free Saigon Stack appetizer at 6th Street Pier, and a free cupcake from Aly Cakes.
“Every one of the businesses involved have been completely into the idea. There is a real sense of community downtown – yes, we all want to make money, but we also love this town and specifically our downtown. We want to see it thrive and hopefully the Downtowner will help do that,” said Fountain.
