>Seven students of the Sixth Grade class at St. George’s Episcopal School (located in Milner, GA) have organized a Mooovin’ It for Heifer International 5K Run at The Rock Ranch. The race will be Saturday, April 16 at 10:00am. The annual Rock Ranch Easter Egg Hunt will take place immediately following the run. Proceeds from the 5K will benefit Heifer International, an organization that buys farm animals for poverty stricken families around the world. Interested runners may obtain more information and sign up for the race at www.therockranch.com, or, www.sges.org.
The St. George’s Episcopal School student organizers took it upon themselves to spearhead this service project and have overseen all aspects of the project including the obtaining of corporate sponsors and the procuring a major venue (The Rock Ranch). The children have been working tirelessly on advertising, logistics, and all aspects of this 5K race. These sixth graders are determined to make a difference locally, with their race, and globally, by contributing all proceeds to Heifer International. It is wonderful to see this level of generosity, compassion, hard work, and determination in a group of young people.
The St. George’s Episcopal School student organizers are available to answer any questions and give additional information about the Mooovin’ It for Heifer 5K. SGES students and faculty advisors may be reached at 770-358-9432 between the hours of 8:00 am and 4:00 pm Monday through Friday.
Heifer’s mission is to work with communities to end hunger and poverty and care for the earth.
Heifer’s mission is to work with communities to end hunger and poverty and care for the earth.
“By giving families a hand-up, not just a hand-out, we empower them to turn lives of hunger and poverty into self-reliance and hope,” their website reads. “With gifts of livestock and training, we help families improve their nutrition and generate income in sustainable ways. We refer to the animals as “living loans” because in exchange for their livestock and training, families agree to give one of its animal’s offspring to another family in need. It’s called Passing on the Gift – a cornerstone of our mission that creates an ever-expanding network of hope and peace.”
