Due to the amount and severity of damage caused by storms that hit Spalding County during the early hours today, the county has declared a local state of emergency.  The decision was made by Chairman Eddie Freeman in conjunction with county officials.  A representative of the Georgia Emergency Management Agency has been on scene for several hours and National Weather Service personnel will arrive later today to survey the damage.

An emergency shelter has been set up at Cowan Road Middle School.  The Red Cross has also been activated and can be contacted at 706-884-5818.
