Griffin man charged with murder of wife

A 65-year-old Griffin man has been arrested and charged with the murder of his 63-year-old wife.  According the Sheriff Stewart, officers were called to the couples’ residence on Barnesville Road for a “welfare check.” When the officers arrived, they met with family members who allowed them into the residence.  When officers checked the residence they found the decomposing body of 63-year-old Olivia Young.

Investigators continued with the investigation and after checking several locations of family and friends Mr Young was located at a local motel.  Mr. Young was taken into custody at the motel after making statements to officers that he had shot and killed his wife.  Mr. Young was brought to the Sheriff’s office where he cooperated with investigators and provided a complete statement of what happened, said Stewart.

Mr. Young stated briefly to investigators at the motel that his wife was ill and that he shot her twice in the head while she was sleeping, so that she did not have to go through her illness anymore.

The investigation continues into the illness, if any, that Mrs. Young may have had, said Stewart.

Mr. Young has been charged with malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, concealing a death and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
