Three injured in head-on collision involving church van

Three people were transported by ambulance for medical care Sunday following a head-on collision involving a First Assembly of God Church van and a Honda Accord.

According to Trooper J.T. McMillan, of the Georgia State Patrol-Griffin Post, the incident occurred on Jordan Hill Road, in the vicinity of Sun City, as the bus was en route to several children’s homes following church services.

“The bus was heading north, back towards Teamon Road. There was a man driving a Honda Accord south on Jordan Hill Road who crossed the center line and hit the church van headlight-to-headlight,” McMillan said. “The van then swerved to the right and overturned in a ditch.”

Only the driver, described as a Mexican male, occupied the Accord.

“He didn’t have a Georgia driver’s license – he had a Mexican license – and of course, it’s not honored here,” McMillan said, adding it is unknown if he is in the country legally.

The driver and five passengers occupied the First Assembly van.

Both drivers and one additional van passenger were transported to the emergency room of Spalding Regional Medical Center, with the remaining van passengers citing only “complaint injuries,” McMillan said.

Due to an unforeseeable technical difficulty, the identities of those involved and charges faced by the Accord’s driver could not be provided. That information is forthcoming.
