With none of the four candidates vying for the office of Spalding Coynty sheriff receiving a majority of the votes in Tuesday’s special election, a runoff between Wendell Beam and Keith Duncan is now slated for Oct. 18.
Voter turnout for the election to fill the unexpired term of Dee Stewart was low, with less only 23.94 percent of registered Spalding County voters casting ballots.
With all 21 precincts reporting, unofficial results showed Wendell Beam taking in 3,658, or 46.8 percent, of the votes, and Keith Duncan following with 2,700, or 34.54 percent of the votes.
Tony Head and Joel Jinks trailed with 720 (9.21 percent) and 731 (9.35 percent), respectively.
An additional eight write-in vows were also cast, representing .1 percent of the total.
