Parks & Recreation Director Louis Greene has passed away. Louis was hired with the County in July of 1991 as Parks & Maintenance Superintendent and was promoted to Director in February of 1992.
A press release from the county calls Louis a “visionary.” As a visionary, Louis had a vision and plan for the Spalding County Parks & Recreation Department. His vision led our Parks & Recreation Department to receive the highest distinction from GRPA as Agency of the Year over five times. Some of Louis’s accomplishments include: the design of the Orchard Hill Park, the purchase of the first Spalding County Parks & Recreation Property (Ambucs Shop), creation of the first Master Plan for Parks & Recreation, building the first recycled tire track (Airport Road Park) and the design of the Wyomia Tyus Park.
Louis’s most recent accomplishment was the opening of the new Senior Center.
Louis’s work will always and forever speak for him. He has left Spalding County with a legacy to be proud of and has held steadfast to making ours forever “Committed to Excellence!”
As Louis is mourned and praised for the work he did for the community and State, county flags will be flown at half-staff until the close of business on Monday.
Visitation for Louis Greene will be Friday at Conner Westbury from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. and the Memorial Service will begin at 2:00 p.m.
One of the good guys.
