SUBMITTED :::
The following press release was on Thursday afternoon issued by Dick Morrow, who serves as a city of Griffin commissioner and chairman of the Griffin-Spalding County Airport Authority.
At 10:41 this morning, I received a telephone call from Carla Sands, acting director GDOT Aviation, that the FAA, Washington, DC, had approved our new airport and its inclusion in NPIAS (National Plan of Integrated Airport System).
Written notification is being sent to the Griffin-Spalding Airport Authority to be followed with an official Memorandum of Understanding authorizing funding and project initiation.
Upon receipt of our formal approval, the Griffin-Spalding Airport Authority will authorize our consultant firm, MBaker Corporation, to begin work on the Airport Layout and Design engineering plan.
Concurrently, the Authority will initiate bond issuance to secure the funds for our required local 10 percent match. With those funds in hand, the Authority expects to be purchasing property by this coming January.
Further information and details will be released as received.
