Safehouse hosting fund-raiser for local missionary family

Safehouse Coffee Roasters is hosting a speaking engagement with Michael and Kelly Reeves, a local family that will soon be serving as missionaries in Ecuador, at 7 p.m. Monday, March 16. This will present the community with an opportunity to learn more about the Reeves family and their long-term ministry goals.

It will also provide an opportunity for the public to support their service in South America, as Safehouse will donate 50 percent of Monday night proceeds to the Reeves family.

“We felt the draw toward missions when we were young and engaged. We originally planned to finish college, attend seminary and then begin full time missions work. The path was longer and curvier than we ever imagined. After 10 years of Army service and multiple deployments, God led us back to missions, and after much prayer, to SIM. SIM is an international mission organization with more than 3,000 active missionaries serving in more than 65 countries. SIM members serve God among many diverse people groups in Africa, Asia and South America. We are committed to cultivating multicultural mission movements that respond to need, proclaim the gospel, and equip the Church. With over 120 years of ministry experience, our passion is to continue to see the Body of Christ in all places, among all peoples, to the glory of God,” Michael Reeves said. “God gave us a heart for the people of South America. As we prayed and researched ministries we felt He was leading us to the El Sendero Youth ministries in Loja, Ecuador. Loja is a city with over 180,000 people, two large universities and a smaller college. Less than 1% of the people in this province are evangelical Christians. El Sendero provides a safe environment for students to hang out, offering Bible studies, English classes, concerts and games.  It is also developing a Family Counseling Center, which partners with the youth ministry to meet the needs of students and families through biblical counseling services. It is our desire to share the Gospel with these kids, provide them with a safe environment and lead them in discipleship and ministry training so they in turn can share the Gospel with their peers.”

Michael will be working with the student ministry and Kelly will continue to homeschool their children and get involved with the counseling ministry.

Safehouse Coffee Roasters is located at 109 S. Hill St., and welcomes the community to support this local family’s Christian ministry.
