GPD: Man facing charges after hiding naked in crawlspace used to grow marijuana

SHEILA A. MATHEWS :::

A Griffin man has been arrested after he was found naked, hiding in the crawlspace of his home, which was allegedly being used as a marijuana grow house.

Shortly before 9 p.m. Wednesday, Griffin Police Department Uniform Patrol Division officers were dispatched to 1538 Oakhill Drive in reference to shots fired during a domestic dispute.

The man alleged to have been involved in the dispute, Rodney Modzelewski, reportedly fled the scene naked, and was later found hiding in a crawlspace underneath the residence.

Prior to discovering the man, GPD officers had obtained a search warrant to obtain evidence related to the domestic dispute.

During the execution of the initial search warrant, a marijuana grow house was allegedly discovered in the crawlspace.

Authorities say a second search warrant was obtained and the subsequent search resulted in the discovery of 27 marijuana plants, six firearms, mushrooms and a large quantity of loose marijuana packed in Mason jars.

Modzelewski and Mary Patton have been charged with the manufacture of marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, felony possession of marijuana and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

Patton is being held in the Spalding County Jail.

Modzelewski is outstanding at this time, as he was transported from the residence to WellStar Spalding Regional Hospital for medical treatment.

“To my knowledge he (Modzelewski) sustained some scrapes from his actions fleeing the scene,” said Investigator Richard Powell, who serves as GPD public information officer.

The investigation of the original domestic dispute and the narcotic case is ongoing and additional charges are pending.
