>"Small Business Saturday"

>

First there was Black Friday, then Cyber Monday. Now American Express has created a new initiative to drive people to do their holiday shopping with small local businesses. They have deemed November 27 as “Small Business Saturday,” a day to support the independently-owned shops in your community.
The website calls Small Business Saturday “A day to come together in support of the small businesses we love. The shops and restaurants that employ our neighbors and reinvest our money close to home. The businesses that are the heartbeat of our communities and local economies.” http://www.smallbusinesssaturday.com/
American Express used Facebook as their main marketing tool in this campaign. On Facebook, individuals and small businesses can support the movement by clicking “like.” For every person that becomes a fan of the Small Business Saturday Facebook page, American Express will donate $1, up to $500,000 to Girls Inc. So far, almost 200,000 people have supported the movement on Facebook.
Other incentives for small businesses and individuals are also offered for Facebook fans. American Express cardholders can receive $25 back when they shop at participating small businesses on November 27, and small businesses can get $100 worth of customizable Facebook ads to promote their business.
