>In an effort to avoid an increase in waste collection charges, the city of Williamson has partnered with its waste collection company, Dependable Waste, to provide weekly recycling collection.
Mayor Steve Fry hopes that Williamson residents will participate in this program, which will avert the 2.3 percent price that was scheduled for May 1. Sending less waste to the landfills decreases costs for Williamson and Dependable Waste, which is how the recycling program will offset the 2.3 percent price increase.
“If the customers in Williamson participate in this recycling program, we can avoid cost increases while helping our environment and reducing our dependence on raw materials,” he wrote in a letter to Williamson residents.
Dependable Waste has agreed to delay the increase through the end of the year, which will allow time for Williamson residents to get in the habit of recycling.
Dependable Waste will provide each Williamson household an 18-gallon recycle bin and provide pick-up between the hours of 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. every Wednesday. Bins will be delivered on Tuesday, April 19 and the first weekly pick-up will be the next day; April 20.
Regular trash pick-up will continue on Thursdays.
