Kenny West Named Spalding Fire Chief

Spalding County Manager William P. Wilson Jr. announced today the appointment of Kenny West as Spalding County Fire Chief. The appointment, effective immediately, concludes an exhaustive search that identified several competitive and qualified candidates.

Mr. West has over thirty-two years of experience with the Spalding County Fire Department. West began his career joining the Fire Department as Firefighter in 1979, advancing to Assistant Fire Chief in 1987, Emergency Management Director in 1990 (a position he still holds) and was appointed Interim Fire Chief in March of 2010.

County Manager William P. Wilson Jr. acknowledged, “Kenny is an experienced professional who has risen through the ranks and proven his leadership abilities. I am pleased to promote from within the department and look forward to working with Kenny in his new position.”

Spalding County Commission Chairman Eddie Freeman welcomed the appointment of West, as well, stating “We are always pleased when local talented individuals are able to expand their knowledge, grow and excel to leadership positions within County government. We wish Kenny luck as he embarks on this new position.”

The new Fire Chief has an Associate of Science Degree from Keiser University with a major in Fire Science, is a State Certified Emergency Medical Technician Intermediate (EMT-I) and holds a Certificate of Local Government Management from the University of Georgia, Carl Vinson Institute of Government.
