STAFF REPORTS :::
According to Capt. Dwayne Jones, of the Griffin Police Department, a new scam has been reported within the state.
Several people have reported receiving a call indicating that they have missed jury duty and must pay a fine over the phone or risk being arrested. This is a scam. If you have questions concerning jury duty, we suggest calling the clerk of court’s office.
Another scam is where a caller informs you that an arrest warrant has been issued for failure to appear in court. Many times they will represent themselves as being with a law enforcement agency and ask for payment by gift card or over the phone. Please be very alert for these types of scams.
If you have any questions please contact your local law enforcement agency.
