Yard waste collection impacted by ice storm

STAFF REPORTS :::

As a result of the recent winter storm, the city of Griffin is mobilizing additional equipment for yard waste clean-up.

Yard waste will be picked up on regularly scheduled days, but due to the amount of debris expected, some delays in service are expected. To check your pick-up date, go to www.cityofgriffin.com.

Do not be concerned if you see a debris truck come through your neighborhood and service smaller piles of yard waste and leave some larger ones. Another truck will come by to collect the larger piles.

Griffin officials say the goal is to have all storm associated debris collected within a two-weekwindow beginning Feb. 17.

Please keep in mind the following steps to aid in the collection of your yard waste and limbs:

– Please place your material at the curb away from utility poles, mail boxes, fire hydrants and street signs.

– Limbs and tree debris should be no more than approximately six inches in diameter and no longer than 6-feet in length. Please break or cut large limbs if possible.

– If you’ve already put debris on the side of the road, check to make sure your pile is properly placed and sized.

Additionally, city residents can drop off their yard waste at one of the following locations:

– The Solid Waste Department located at 236 Emlet Drive.

– Fire Station One located at 314 North Hill St.

– Near Third Ward Park/Griffin RESA at 440 Tilney Ave.

– The Kiwanis Property located at 1025 South Hill Street,

– The city Transfer Station located at 1515 Industrial Drive,

– The Shoal Creek Landfill located at 575 Shoal Creek Road from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to noon Saturday.

Officials say patience and assistance in aiding the community in getting back to normal after the recent winter event is appreciated.

If residents have additional questions or need to arrange a special handling service, they are asked to contact the Solid Waste Department at 770-229-6421.
