Griffin man arrested after allegedly threatening to kill local law enforcement officers

A Griffin man, Rodrick Reid, was on Thursday arrested on charges of making terroristic threats and disorderly conduct after allegedly threatening to shoot local law enforcement officers.
Spalding County Sheriff Wendell Beam said Reid was apprehended after an extensive search of the Griffin area and subsequent search warrant was executed at a Griffin residence located on Peachtree Street.
According to Beam, law enforcement agencies became aware of the threat against the Griffin Police Department (GPD) and Spalding County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) after Reid contacted Capital Police in Atlanta and stated his intent to kill local officers.
“What we were told is that he apparently called Capital Police and threatened to shoot local police officers and deputies,” Beam said. “That’s the basics we received from the Capital Police.”
Other officials said Reid had threatened to attack both the GPD and SCSO headquarters.
Numerous officers of both local agencies were involved in the search for Reid and his later arrest.
“He was arrested at approximately 4:30 p.m.,” Beam said. “There was no resistance offered. He was arrested by members of the Sheriff’s Office and Police Department.”
Reid was unarmed and offered no resistance, officials say.
He is currently being held in the Spalding County Jail awaiting transfer to Capital Police.
