Three men shot during armed robbery; GPD seeking two suspects

SHEILA A. MATHEWS :::

Three Griffin men are recovering from gunshot wounds sustained Wednesday night in what law enforcement officials say was an attempted armed robbery at 901 Ray Street.
According to Lt. Mike Richardson, of the Griffin Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division, the incident followed many hours of drinking and gambling.
“All these guys had been hanging out all afternoon and evening, drinking and playing cards. There were probably 10 to 12 guys playing cards – playing poker and gambling,” Richardson said. “Two other individuals that had been over there hanging out off and on basically brandished two firearms. According to witnesses, one of them yelled ‘Get on the ground,’ but everyone scattered and started running.”
When those present began to run away, one of the suspects opened fire on the group, striking three men.
“We only found three shell casings and he hit three people,” Richardson said.
The victims were Broderick Greene, who sustained a gunshot wound to his right knee; Glen Reid, who sustained a gunshot wound to his left foot; and JaQuanto Redding, who was shot in the left leg.
None of the injuries sustained in the attack were life-threatening.
“The gunshot wounds were all through-and-through shots. The victims were all taken to the hospital, treated and released,” Richardson said.
Witnesses have identified the two gunmen as Jafiel Prather and Xavier Ford.
“Neither of the suspects is in custody,” Richardson said. “They should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information pertaining to their whereabouts should not attempt to make contact with these individuals, but should call either 911 or the case agent, Sgt. Sommer Bales, at 770.227.6450.”
Bales has obtained arrest warrants for Prather and Ford, with each suspect facing three counts of aggravated assault and one count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, and additional charges are pending further investigation.
