Griffin PD investigating violent rape

SHEILA A. MATHEWS :::

The Griffin Police Department is investigating a Sunday afternoon rape that authorities say took place with a child present in the home.
Lt. Mike Richardson, of the GPD Criminal Investigation Division, said the incident occurred between 3 and 4 p.m. on D.F. Fuller Drive.
“An unknown black male entered her (the victim’s) residence, forced her into the bathroom and assaulted her. It was particularly violent,” Richardson said. “There was also a juvenile child in the home. We don’t know the extent of what the child saw or heard.”
Due to the nature of the attack, the victim was transported to Henry County for care and evaluation.
“She was taken to the Southern Crescent Sexual Assault and Child Advocacy Center where evidence was collected,” Richardson said. “She (the victim) provided a description of the suspect and investigators are following that.”
Cpl. Kelly McKinney is the case agent, and anyone with information that may lead to the identification and apprehension of the rape suspect is asked to contact her at 770.229.6450 or kmckinney@cityofgriffin.com.
