SHEILA A. MATHEWS :::

The Spalding County Board of Commissioners on Monday morning voted not to uphold its previous decision to deny the 2015 alcohol license renewal sought by Justin Wynne, doing business as Mama’s Country Showcase.

Following the appeal hearing, which lasted roughly an hour and a half, Commission Vice-chairman Raymond Ray made a motion to deny the appeal. Commissioner Rita Johnson seconded that motion.

Discussion ensued, including questions of whether Wynne, who pled guilty to an illegal gambling charge, should have been subjected to sanctions under his 2014 alcohol license.

The vote to not uphold the original denial of Wynne’s 2015 alcohol license renewal was 3-1, supported by Commissioner Gwen Flowers-Taylor, Commissioner Bart Miller and Johnson, and Ray voting to uphold the BoC’s previous decision.

Wynne was instead subjected to a $1,000 fine under his 2014 license for the illegal gambling conviction, which he said would be paid Monday as long as he would, upon payment, receive a 2015 alcohol license renewal.

The Grip will post an updated article detailing the morning’s hearing later in the day.
