UPDATE: Four-year-old child did sustain gunshot wound in drive-by incident

A Wednesday night drive-by shooting at 610 Lane St., left two people, including a young child, wounded.

Authorities say a four-year-old little girl was shot in the back, and the child’s mother sustained a gunshot wound to the buttocks/hip area.

Both victims were transported by ambulance to the emergency room of Spalding Regional Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

“The juvenile’s initial injury appeared to be a graze, but it has been determined that a bullet did penetrate her back and was later removed by medical personnel,” said Lt. Mike Richardson, of the GPD Criminal Investigation Division. “A 37-year-old female (the juvenile’s mother) was shot in the buttock area.”

The adult female victim’s wound was not through-and-through, meaning the bullet did not exit her body, Richardson said.

Investigators of the Griffin Police Department remain on the scene and are actively investigating the incident.

Richardson said no witnesses have come forward with information.

In addition to the two victims, two others were present in the residence at the time the shooting occurred.

“There were two other subjects in the house that were not injured at the time of the shooting. They were identified as the father of the female child and the 11-year-old son of the female victim,” Richardson said. “At this time, we have no information regarding the intended targets of the shooting. A witness reported hearing multiple gunshots and then hearing tires screeching. No names are being released at this time as this is an active investigation.”
