SHEILA A. MATHEWS :::
A pedestrian sustained minor injuries Wednesday evening when she was struck by a vehicle on Pine Hill Road.
According to Sgt. John Hayes, of the Griffin Police Department Uniform Patrol Division, the incident was reported at 8:12 p.m. The female victim was walking northbound on Pine Hill Road approaching the intersection with Poplar St. when she was struck.
“There’s no sidewalk or shoulder on Pine Hill Road, so she was walking in the roadway,” Hayes said. “Witnesses said they’d seen her in the roadway prior to the incident, so the driver’s version was substantiated.”
Hayes said the female driver stopped immediately after striking the pedestrian.
“She stopped at the point of impact, and she wasn’t speeding,” he said.
Hayes said the victim sustained very minor injuries, and was conscious, alert and coherent at the scene.
She was transported by the emergency room of Spalding Regional Hospital where she was evaluated and soon released.
“She (the pedestrian) was wearing dark clothing and the driver didn’t even see her until she bumped her,” Hayes said. “There will be no charges brought against the driver.”
