Friday shooting leaves one man in critical condition

The Griffin Police Department is investigating a Friday evening shooting that occurred at Triple 8 Grocery Store at the intersection of N. 9th and Tinsley streets.

One individual was wounded in the incident and was transported to Atlanta via medical flight.

According to Lt. Mike Richardson, of the GPD Criminal Investigation Division, the shooting followed a dispute that began inside the store.

“Two black males were involved in a verbal altercation inside the Triple 8 Grocery Store. The verbal altercation continued outside the store, and witnesses reported hearing three gunshots. One individual involved in the verbal altercation was shot in the leg,” Richardson said. “The victim lost a lot of blood, so he has been life-flighted to Atlanta Medical Center.”

Richardson said witnesses to the incident have been transported to PD headquarters where they are being interviewed by Sgt. Karen Yancey.

Video surveillance footage from inside the store is also being pulled to help authorities identify the two individuals involved in the altercation.

The Grip will continue to monitor this breaking news and report updates as additional information becomes available.
