Fredrick Earnest Schnell, the second suspect wanted in connection to a June 18 armed robbery at Ma & Pa Grocery, during which a shot was fired, has been apprehended.
According to Lt. Mike Natale, of the Griffin Police Department, one suspect, Devontae Young, was quickly apprehended after the incident with the assistance of the Clayton County Police Department, but Schnell remained at large.
Photographs and a video of Schnell were released to media outlets and circulated on social media in an effort of locate the suspect. This resulted in the GPD receiving anonymous tips that Schnell was attempting to flee from Georgia to New York, where he has family members residing, Natale said.
Authorities say Investigator Stacy Beckom, of the GPD Criminal Investigation Division, in recent weeks received new information regarding Schnell’s whereabouts in the Bronx, N.Y.
Based on this information, Beckom contacted Southern Crescent Technical College Police Chief Ken Troisi, who was formerly an officer of the New York Police Department.
Troisi provided Beckom with a contact in New York, and Beckom has since worked with the NYPD Fugitive Warrant Division in the Bronx to locate and apprehend Schnell.
On Monday, Aug. 24, Detective Horne and other officers from the NYPD took Schnell into custody at an address Beckom obtained from an anonymous tipster.
Scnell is now in the process of being extradited to Georgia where he will face charges of armed robbery, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and wearing a mask to conceal identity.
