Unidentified black male critically injured Thursday when struck by vehicle

An unidentified black man was critically injured Thursday afternoon when he was struck by a vehicle on S. Hill St.

According to Lt. Mike Natale, of the Griffin Police Department Office of the Chief, the man was riding a bicycle when the incident occurred.

“A black male – an unidentified black male who didn’t have any ID on him – we don’t even know his age or anything, was coming out of the Hillandale subdivision on a bicycle and didn’t stop at the stop sign,” he said. “ A lady driving an SUV was traveling northbound on Hill St. She tried to avoid him, but struck him and drug him underneath the vehicle going down the length of Kip’s.”

Natale said personnel of Griffin Fire-Rescue began rendering aid immediately upon arrival.

“Then EMS got there and got a pulse, and then they transferred him to Spalding (Regional Hospital),” Natale said. “Spalding put Life Flight on standby. I don’t know if they’ve flown him out yet or not.”

Due to the nature of the incident, the investigation has been turned over to the Georgia State Patrol. It is anticipated that the Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team will be involved in determining the details of how the incident occurred.
