GBI investigating Henry County officer involved shooting


At approximately 9:37 a.m. on Dec. 13, Henry County Police officers responded to the area of 26 E. Main St., Hampton, to assist Hampton officers on a domestic dispute between a male and female. The incident occurred in the street behind the business. Upon our officer’s arrival to the scene,  the male suspect was armed with a handgun and refused to comply with officer’s orders to drop the weapon. Our officer was forced to utilize deadly force and discharged one round striking the suspect. The suspect was transported to an area hospital in critical condition. We cannot confirm any updates on the victim’s condition. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was requested to conduct the use of force investigation. Our officer directly involved in the use of force has been placed on administrative leave with pay pending the outcome of the G.B.I’s findings. At this time all further information will be released by the G.B.I Public Information Officer.
