The Spalding County Sheriff’s Department on Saturday morning responded to a call to Deason Street after receiving a report involving an alleged mentally distressed individual.
Based on information provided to authorities indicating the individual was possibly armed, the decision was made to activate the SWAT team.
According to a press release issued by Sheriff Darrell Dix, deputies, investigators and the SWAT team negotiated with the man, who peacefully surrendered without incident.
Officials report the man is now receiving medical care.
The GRIP 
Thanks to the Sheriff’s deputies for helping an individual in distress get the treatment he needed. It is a much more humane way of dealing with crises than violence.
