One man has been arrested in connection to the Tuesday, April 30, 2019, shooting death of 25-year-old Edmond Irvin, an off-duty deputy of the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office.
According to a press release issued by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the GBI was requested to investigate by the Palmetto Police Department.
Authorities say preliminary information indicates that at approximately 9:41 p.m., the Palmetto Police Department received a 911 call reporting a person had been shot at 519 Snowfall Terrace. Upon arriving at that location, officers learned Irvin had been shot and killed inside the residence.
Investigators say Danny Long, who was identified as Irvin’s 17-year-old cousin, was allegedly involved in a physical altercation with the off-duty deputy, which resulted in Long shooting Irvin with a handgun and fleeing the scene.
A search resulted in Long’s arrest, and he is now being held in the Fayette County Jail on charges on murder and terroristic threats.
The GBI will continue its independent investigation and upon its completion, the case will be presented to the Coweta County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
