Search for missing Pike County boy ends in tragedy

An hours-long search for a missing teenager ended late Wednesday night when his body was recovered in Molena.

The youth, 15-year-old Ephraim Moisey Burgreen, who was autistic and legally blind, was reported missing from a North Madden Bridge Road residence Wednesday afternoon.

The PCSO was dispatched to Burgreen’s residence at 4:58 p.m.

After searching for some time, the PCSO requested the assistance of the Pike County Fire Department (PCFD) to provide manpower to assist in the search.

According to a press release issued by the PCFD, five teams were sent out to search, starting in the woods and continuing until it was too dark to continue.

The Pike County Emergency Management Agency requested mutual aid from the Upson County Emergency Management Agency, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, the Spalding County Sheriff’s Office and the Meriwether County Fire Department.
The Spalding County Sheriff’s Office supplied its helicopter and utilized its forward looking infrared (FLIR) camera to search by air.

Once the air search was done, a team of search dogs was deployed. They alerted to a beaver pond approximately 300 yards from the residence. Burgreen was located at approximately 10:49 p.m.

The PCSO ultimately recovered Burgreen’s body from the middle of the pond.

In a separate press release, the PCSO expressed thanks to those who assisted in the search efforts.

“Thank you to all of the citizens that came out and assisted Emergency Services last night,” the release stated. “The outpouring of support and help from our citizens is what helps make Pike County a special place.”
