STAFF REPORT :::

The Spalding County Sheriff’s Office has made an arrest in a residential burglary that occurred Oct. 4.

According to a press release issued by the Sheriff Darrell Dix, deputies from the Uniform Patrol Division responded to a call at an Elm Street residence, where the victim’s security system captured video footage of a suspect inside her home.

Authorities say the suspect removed the removed the security system, but the video had already been captured and transmitted.

That video was posted on social media, which led to the identification and arrest of a suspect.

That resulted from tips provided by the public and leads followed by Investigator Phil Hammond, officials say.

“The identification of this suspect was made possible because of tips that citizens provided to Investigator Phil Hammond. The information was used to identify the suspect, obtain the search warrant, and make the arrest,” Dix said. “Thank you for your continued support of the Spalding County Sheriff’s Office.”

Joshua Atkinson was arrested and charged with burglary, and he is currently being held at the Spalding County Jail awaiting a bond hearing.
