An audit of all Spalding County votes cast in the 2020 presidential election began at 9 a.m. at the Elections and Voter Registration Office.

Monitors from both the Republican and Democratic parties are present and observing the audit.

Altogether, 30,250 ballots were cast in Spalding County and each will be counted by hand throughout this process that may take several days.

The audit process requires ballot audit team members to separate batches of ballots by the presidential candidate for whom the individual vote was cast. Once separated, each ballot will be hand counted.

The unofficial vote count indicated President Donald Trump received 18,075 votes representing 59.95 percent while Joe Biden garnered 11,784 votes coming in at 39.13 percent. Jo Jorgensen received just under one percent of the vote with 275 ballots, or 0.91 percent of the vote, cast for the Libertarian candidate.

  1. I cannot wait to vote this incompetent Secretary of State out, along with goofy Governor Kemp. Kemp handed the Senate to the Democrats by handing the seat to an Oligarch, Kelly Loeffler. I just left the GOP because of these two and I don’t think that I am alone.

Where are the poll watchers?? Hmmm?  On nat;l news yesterday, there is a discussion the the voting computer firm possibly had something in them that counted Repub votes up to certain point, then switched them over to Demo votes, then self destructed. I’m not computer savy so not sure this is even possible, but is interesting. Thanks for your great coverage Sheila.Carl
