Teenager shot and killed in Pike County

A teenager has succumbed to injuries sustained in what authorities are describing as an accidental shooting.

Deputies of the Pike County Sheriff’s Office responded at 6:20 p.m. today to a report of a person shot at the residence located at 44 4th St. in Concord.

Upon arrival, a 17-year-old boy was located with a single gunshot wound.

The victim was transported for medical treatment but died as a result of his injuries.

According to the Pike County Sheriff’s Office, the preliminary investigation indicates a person in an adjacent room is believed to have dropped a firearm, causing it to discharge through a wall and strike the victim.

The investigation remains ongoing, and officials are not yet releasing the names of those involved.
