Griffin High teacher and coach Bart Pinckney dies

SHEILA A. MATHEWS  :::

Griffin High School Coach Bartonia “Bart” Pinckney has passed away following an extended hospitalization.

Pinckney was a math teacher and coached football, basketball and track at Griffin High School.

During his 13-year career with the Griffin-Spalding County School System, he also taught at Spalding High School and Carver Road Middle School.

He previously worked in the Pike County School System.

Executive Director of Communications and Partnerships Adam Pugh said the school system will be supporting students, teachers and staff with grief counseling.

“He was certainly influential among students and will be missed,” said GSCSS Executive Director of Communications and Partnerships Adam Pugh. “He will be terribly missed.”

Ashantee Goggins, the 2019 GSCSS STAR student, said Pinckney, whom she selected as her STAR teacher, impacted students’ lives beyond the classroom.

 “Coach Pinckney taught me more than just math lessons,” Goggins said. “He taught me life lessons and guided me in the right direction.”
