Two men credited with rescuing woman from burning vehicle after wreck

Good Samaritans are being credited with rescuing a woman from her wrecked vehicle just as it caught on fire.

According to the Pike County Sheriff’s Office, Shelby Hatchett was involved in a collision early Thursday morning on Reidsboro Road that left her unable to exit her vehicle.

Two passersby, George Smith and Ronald Boes, came to her assistance, and managed to open her door and remove her from the burning vehicle.
PCSO officials credit Smith and Boes with preventing a tragedy with a “devastating outcome.”

Authorities say the accident resulted when Hatchett swerved to avoid striking a deer. They say her vehicle then left the roadway and struck a brick sign.

Hatchett was transported to the hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the wreck.
