SHEILA A. MATHEWS :::
A mother and her boyfriend have been charged with murder in the violent death of six-year-old Jacob Andrew Williams.
The Henry County Police Department (HCPD) on Sunday responded to a residence on Belmont Farms Drive in Ellenwood in reference to an unconscious child.
Upon arrival, officers located the little boy who was unresponsive, breathing shallowly and had blood coming from his mouth.
Henry County emergency medical technicians arrived and immediately rendered aid and transported Jacob to Piedmont Henry Hospital.
While undergoing treatment, Piedmont Henry employees reported to the police the discovery of bruises covering the majority of Jacob’s body.
The little boy was later flown to Children’s Egleston Hospital in Atlanta, where he was ultimately placed on life support.
The HCPD investigation resulted in the arrest of Jacob’s mother, 33-year-old DeShante Lashawn Beard, and her boyfriend, 29-year-old Less Thompson.
Beard and Thompson were initially charged with aggravated assault, aggravated battery and first-degree cruelty to children.
At 6:02 p.m. Tuesday, June 16, Jacob was removed from life support.
Today, charges against Beard and Thompson were upgraded and both are now charged with malice murder and felony murder.
The investigation is ongoing.
