GHS student facing child porn charges after explicit video was AirDropped at school

SHEILA A. MATHEWS :::

A 17-year-old Griffin High School student, Lucinda Karina Bailey, has been arrested and charged with the production and distribution of child pornography under the Georgia Computer Pornography and Child Exploitation Prevention Act.

The Griffin Police Department alleges Bailey on Monday used the iPhone AirDrop feature to disseminate a video recording of a 15-year-old girl masturbating.

GPD Officer Taylor Murphy, who was filling in as the GHS school resource office, said he was notified Tuesday by school administrators Dr. Aaron Randall and Assistant Principal Pamela Davis, “…that there had been an explicit video of a juvenile pleasuring herself that was airdropped in the lunchroom the day before.”

Murphy and GPD Investigator Jodi Spears met with the 15-year-old female student allegedly depicted in the video recording and her mother.

“I asked (the 15-year-old female) about the video circulating and she advised that she was on a FaceTime call with Lucinda Bailey, who is 17 years of age, playing with herself and that Lucinda had screen recorded the incident,” Murphy reported.

The alleged victim also told police that a friend had notified her that Bailey had sent the video to her multiple times, Murphy said.

When Murphy and Spears interviewed that student, she reported that the 15-year-old alleged victim had sent the sexually explicit video to her “by accident” and asked her to delete it, which she said she did. She said Bailey also AirDropped the video Monday.

Murphy and Randall then removed Bailey from class, and she was handcuffed and transported to GPD headquarters for questioning.

Officials say Bailey waived her Miranda rights and agreed to speak to investigators without counsel present.

“I gave Bailey a copy of the search warrant for her phone. I asked Bailey about the video that was airdropped to other students at the school,” Murphy said. “Bailey stated that she did airdrop the video. Bailey stated that she knew (the 15-year-old) was 15-years-old. I asked Bailey about the recorded facetime call and she stated that (the 15-year-old) told her to record it so she would have it a longtime (sic all).”

Griffin-Spalding County School System Executive Director of Communications and Partnerships Adam Pugh reached out to GHS parents Tuesday night.

“It has been brought to our attention that inappropriate video material has been shared at school using the Apple I-Phone Airdrop feature. It is important that all students understand that they should delete anything inappropriate they may have received,” Pugh said. “Anyone who re-shares such material digitally may be committing a crime. All students should check their Airdrop settings and turn receiving off to protect themselves from receiving inappropriate material on their I-phone.”

Pugh said that aside from the criminal charges, Bailey faces disciplinary action that will follow the GSCSS Code of Conduct.
