One man shot and killed on Dobbins Mill Road; three suspects in custody

SHEILA A. MATHEWS :::

A 21-year-old man was killed Monday afternoon in a shooting on Dobbins Mill Road.

“We had a homicide this afternoon on Dobbins Mill Road. We had a 21-year-old male who was shot and killed during an altercation,” said Spalding County Coroner Michael Pryor, who is not yet releasing the victim’s identity pending necessary familial notification. “He was shot in the upper torso. It’s still pending on how many times. I’m going to be sending his body to the GBI medical examiner for autopsy, and they’ll be able to tell us precisely on that side of things. It is an ongoing investigation at the moment.”

Pryor said the type of weapon used is unknown.

Sheriff Darrell Dix confirmed that arrests have been made.

“As of right now, three suspects in the shooting are in custody. They were not in the area of the shooting, but were taken into custody in Henry County,” Dix said.

He also addressed speculation circulating online regarding the incident.

“No one has been located that chased the shooter on foot, and the story of a black male shooter running into a wood line is not true,” Dix said. “All in custody are white.”

Dix also said the general public was not at risk.

“There was not threat to the public as it appears they all knew each other. It was not a random act,” he said.
