The approval of Sunday alcohol sales in Spalding County will take effect March 20, 2012. The first Sunday on which county retailers can sell alcohol will be March 25, 2012.
Spalding County voters approved two measures to allow Sunday alcohol sales according to Spalding County Elections Supervisor, Terry Colling. Ms. Colling also added that the March 5 unofficial election results will not be certified until Friday evening or early Saturday morning.
The first question, which asked voters to allow licensed retailers to sell malt beverages and wine on Sunday between the hours of 12:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. passed 53% to 47%. The second, which would allow licensed retailers to sell liquor on Sunday between the hours of 12:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m., passed 51% to 49%.
The Spalding County Board of Commissioners brought the referendums to voters, hoping to put County businesses on an “even playing field with businesses within the City of Griffin,” Commission Chairman Gwen Flowers-Taylor said.
