SCSO makes arrests in two aggravated assault cases

From staff reports

The Spalding County Sheriff’s Office has made arrests this week in two recent aggravated assault cases.

Deputies were dispatched to the first incident just after 8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 3, in reference to a person shot. The first responding officer arrived and located a male victim in the roadway with a gunshot wound.

According the victim, he was traveling as a passenger in a vehicle on Rehobeth Church Road when a white in color car entered the roadway behind them and attempted to run them off the road.

The victim stated that they turned onto Ellis Dairy Road and confronted the driver of the white car, who then shot the victim.

The victim identified the shooter as 25-year-old Brandon Gilbert, of 144 Morris Mill Road, and provided patrol officer with descriptions of the vehicle and Gilbert, who was wanted for aggravated assault.

While the investigation was ongoing, Uniform Patrol Division personnel located the described vehicle occupied by the suspect on N. McDonough Road at Highfalls Road.

As the officer activated emergency equipment and attempted to execute a traffic stop, Gilbert refused to comply and fled.

After reaching speeds of 100 m.p.h., Gilbert turned onto Morris Mill Road and pulled into his driveway, where he was taken into custody without further incident.

Gilbert is charged with aggravated assault, aggravated battery, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, fleeing and attempting to elude, driving on a revoked license and reckless driving.

He is currently being held at the SCSO Detention Center.

The most recent aggravated assault-related arrest involved a shooting that took place Jan. 26.

According to Spalding County Sheriff Wendell Beam, John Douglas was being sought for questioning related to his involvement in the alleged drug-related shooting that occurred on 5th Street. He was arrested this week without incident during a traffic stop.

Investigators say Douglas was shot in the chest during the initial incident by 20-year-old Christopher John Henry Zickefoose, of No. 25 6th St.

Zickefoose was arrested and charged with aggravated assault; possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime; possession of Zanax, a Schedule IV drug; possession of a controlled subject with intent to distribute; failure to keep drugs in the original container; and possession of less than one ounce of marijuana.

Douglas faces charges of violation of parole, giving a false name and date of birth to a law enforcement officer and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Zickfoose and Douglas are being held at the SCSO Detention Center.
