Does HR Bill 347 curb freedom of speech?

JESSICA GREGORY :::

We’ve started seeing some social media posts about how Obama signed away First Amendment rights with the passage of HR Bill 347.  After looking into it, we realized HR Bill 347 was passed last Feb. 29 2012, and that experts disagree on how the bill affects free speech.  HR 347 is actually an updated version of a law passed in 1971.

Here at The Grip, we love to “Snopes” things we read on social media sites.  The Snopes website (www.snopes.com) researches common fallacies, misinformation, old wives’ tales, strange news stories, rumors, celebrity gossip, and similar items and reports on whether or not the item is true.  While it’s not a source that we would necessarily quote in a printed news story, it’s actually a great place for anyone to go find the validity of almost any internet claim in lay peoples’ terms.

On their page regarding HR Bill 347, they quote several legal experts’ opinions on the bill, and what it really means for the nation’s ability to protest.  Read their report here: http://www.snopes.com/politics/crime/restricted.asp and then email us at feedback@the-grip.net to let us know what you think.
