The Grip has received confirmation that on Wednesday morning, a bomb threat was called in to the Spalding County Courthouse.

Personnel of the Spalding County Sheriff’s Office, the Spalding County Fire Department and the Griffin Police Department and Griffin Fire-Rescue are on scene and have several blocks in the immediate vicinity closed off.

This is the third such recent local incident. The first threat was reported July 12 when a caller claimed an explosive device had been placed in the parking deck located between the Courthouse and One Griffin Center, which houses city offices. The second threat claiming a bomb had been placed inside the courthouse was made July 15.

All three incidents resulted in evacuations and the disruption of official business.

Those cases remain open with no arrests having been made.

Updated information will be posted as it becomes available.
