Senior Center hosts Beach Party fundraising for Alzheimer’s Association

The Spalding Senior Center was the host site for a “Summer Beach Party” fundraising event sponsored by the Southern Crescent Alzheimer’s Association.  Hostess for the gala was Jo Ellis, Spalding County Alzheimer’s Association Chairperson.  The gala included a rock ‘n roll band playing “oldie goldies”, luau food items, and a DJ spinning hits from the past and playing musical trivia with the audience.  Participants dressed in their favorite beach shirt, hat, shorts, and sandals.  A hula hoop contest was also part of the fun.

“A huge thank you goes to the following businesses / persons who were responsible for making this event a success,” said, Ellis.  “All the food, serving supplies, drinks, food preparation, and decorations for this event were donated by these kind individuals or groups.  They include:  Food Depot, Good City Chinese Restaurant, Heritage Healthcare of Griffin, Homestead Hospice, Hong Kong II Buffet, Ingle’s Supermarket, Kroger’s Supermarket, Margo’s Restaurant, Wanda Soloman and Billie Brown.  Senior Center volunteers were:  Mary Lou Cullen, Clara Ellis,   Janice Aiken, Burley and Joyce Bonner.  The band included – Larry Mills, Larry Knight, Jim Land, and Barry Byars.  The “oldie goldie” hits were compliments of DJ – Dennis McDonald.”

Everyone enjoyed good fun, music, food, and fellowship.  The next Spalding Alzheimer’s fundraiser will be a Line Dance Jamboree to be held on September 6th, Friday, at the First Baptist Church of Griffin.  Cost is a $10 donation.  Light refreshments will be furnished.  Tickets go on sale Monday.  For more information, call Jo Ellis at 770-233-8310 or Eddie Huffman at 770-412-8838.
