Four Griffin men arrested in connection with Sunday night murder

SHEILA MATHEWS :::

Four Griffin men have been arrested in connection with the overnight murder of 23-year-old Darrius Shaw, also known as Slaw Dawg.

“At 12:48 this morning, officers were called to 226 Kentucky Ave., and they found a 23-year-old victim with gunshot wounds,” said Capt. Dwayne Jones, of the Griffin Police Department. “Shaw’s last known Griffin address was 301 E. Chappell St., but he’s also been known to live in Barnesville.”

Authorities say they are not yet prepared to release the identities or charges faced by the four men arrested, but did confirm the are from Griffin and the arrests are in relation to Shaw’s shooting death.

“We’re still working on a motive, but there’s no indication in the early stage of the investigation that it was gang related,” Jones said, adding that Shaw, himself, had no known gang affiliation. “But he was known to law enforcement.”

He also said Shaw was not in possession of drugs at the time of his death.

A fifth person was arrested at the scene and has been charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

“He was not part of the four that’s been charged with the shooting,” Jones said.

Officials are not releasing the number of gunshot wounds Shaw sustained, but said his body was transported to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime lab.

“Multiple shots were fired, but we’re going to have to await autopsy results for that information,” Jones said.

Shaw was not in possession of a firearm, and it is not known if he was acquainted with the four men arrested in connection with his death.

The suspects, as well as the fifth person arrested on the weapon charge, are being held in the Spalding County Jail.
