Zebulon family fundraising to adopt two Ukrainian teens

Amanda Hollar-Bash and Chris Bash of Zebulon are in the process of adopting two-last chance teen orphan girls from Ukraine.  Chris and Amanda have been married since 2009, and adopted their youngest child, Ian, from Vladivostok, Russia last year. They met Maria and Valeria through a hosting program called Project 143, an organization that helps to find homes for older orphans who are not as likely to be adopted.

The Bash family hosted Valeria last winter for several weeks during the Christmas holiday and started making preparations to adopt her and her friend, Maria.

Maria and Valeria, both 16, are on the verge of aging out of the orphanage they have called home since they were 5 years old.  All children age out at 16, but since the adoption process is underway the girls are safe for now. If the child has no where to go after being put out of the orphanage they usually live on the streets.

The Bash Family has submitted their dossier to Ukraine and are waiting to receive travel dates and approval to adopt the girls.  The Bashes will have to make three trips to Ukraine to complete the adoption process and expect to make their first trip in either December or January. “Adoption is expensive but these young girls are priceless,” said Amanda Bash.  “We know we cannot save the world, but we can save these two girls with the help of others through donations and support.”

The adoption facilitation fee alone is $15,900 to execute to the adoption process, and so far the family has raised $7,000 through several fundraising efforts.  The facilitation fee does not include the family’s travel expenses. Donations can be made online by following this link:  http://www.youcaring.com/other/forever-family-for-last-chance-ukrainian-orphans/87119/update/82520.   There is also a savings account at The First Bank of Pike in Zebulon where donations can be made.

The Bashes are holding their next fundraising event, Turkey Bingo, at Affairs to Remember in Griffin on Nov 16 from 2-4 p.m.  Various businesses and organizations have donated 10 turkeys to be used as prizes for the Bingo winners.  Ten rounds of Bingo will be played to give away all 10 turkeys. Tickets are $10 each.

Updates on the Bash adoption can be found on their YouCaring page here.
