Think on these things

8And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. 9Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me – everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you.  Philippians 4:8-9

“One final thing,” he writes.  In other words, let this be the last thought I leave with you.  I always imagine Paul wrote this bearing down on that sheet of papyrus as hard as he possibly could.  Underlining it.  Putting a box around it.  Tracing over each letter again and again and again, because I have come to believe that whatever we think about, we tend to bring about.  That our thoughts set the course of our life.  If we think on things that are good, we will live fuller, more contented lives.  Lives with much less trouble.  Not trouble-free.  We will have many troubles in this world.  But, we have the ability to live a life with fewer troubles.  Because many of our troubles are first created in our minds.  And, the greatest battle you will ever fight is not some devil out there.  The greatest battle is between your ears.  It’s what you tell yourself.  It’s what you believe about yourself and about others.

Learning to live out Philippians 4 will change how you wake up in the morning.  It will change the course of your day.  It will cause you to lie down at night overwhelmed by the goodness of God.

In January of 2012, I began a journey in positive thinking that transformed my life.  It changed the way I look at myself.  It changed the way I treat my husband.  It changed the way I talk to my children.  It changed the way I see you and the way I see the world.  My friend and mentor, Dr. Ralph Martin, will be teaching a School of Positive Thinking at Eagles Way Church beginning Wednesday, January 22 from 6:30-8:00.  It will be every Wednesday and last 12 weeks.  It is open to the public with childcare and classes available for children.  I don’t normally promote anything in these articles, but I wanted to share about this opportunity because this has been such a life-changer for me personally.  Start the year resolved to fix your thoughts on what is good.  Learn how to replace bad thoughts with truth.  Wrap yourself in the reason Jesus came:  that you may have life and have it to the full.

Here’s to a wonderful 2014.Ω
