Brother of GPD officer killed in line of duty will not be charged

SHEILA A. MATHEWS :::

Raymond Jordan, the brother of Griffin Police Officer Kevin Jordan, who was killed early Saturday, will not be charged in the incident.
Raymond Jordan, who was visiting his brother, the slain officer, as he worked a security detail at the Waffle House located on North Expressway, returned fire when his brother was attacked.
Authorities say Officer Kevin Jordan was responding to a disturbance inside the restaurant when he confronted Michael Bowman, Chantell Mixon and Tyler Taylor, who police officials have described as appearing “extremely intoxicated.”
After Officer Jordan removed the three suspects from the restaurant, Mixon became increasingly disruptive, at which time the officer attempted to place her under arrest for disorderly conduct.
Lt. Mike Richardson earlier reported that when Officer Jordan had Mixon on the ground and was attempting to handcuff her, Bowman approached from behind and opened fire, striking Kevin Jordan multiple times.
At that time, Raymond Jordan, who is legally permitted to carry a gun, returned fire, striking Bowman, who remains hospitalized in Atlanta Medical Center where he is listed in critical, but stable, condition.
Richardson now reports the GBI, which has been investigating the incident, has determined Raymond Jordan acted legally in defense of his brother and will not be charged.
The GBI has charged Bowman with felony murder; Mixon is charged with felony murder and felony obstruction of a law enforcement officer; and Taylor is charged with disorderly conduct.
Officer Kevin Jordan is survived by seven children.
